I got this question at the Japanese forum.

Showing locked text / message over the gesture-lock screen is possible?

There is a similar topic in the mobile security sub-forum somewhere on something similar (Pattern lock or something like that). I did a search and found this one http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=91295.0.

So currently it isn't possible, but it isn't all bad news, they have found a solution.
