U can say avast is non-traditional AV...At least version 6  ;D

Not just depending on virus signatures heuristic based detections and 0-day protection from auto-sandbox...

Mostly i can say that a AV is tradational if it depends heavily on signatures  know avast Also does...BTW I am aso confused! :-X

I think the term is too open to interpretation.

One person/companies idea of traditional is likely to be different to another.

The time frame is also an issue, some might say that a traditional AV was the old style on-demand only, when they first came out they would have been the bleeding edge and in a few years time when resident AVs came out the on-demand would be traditional and the new bleeding edge, non-traditional.

So there is much scope for interpretation or should that be misinterpretation. A lot of it may depend on time frame and what the person is trying to sell (marketing hype) as to what they are calling traditional/non-traditional.

Maybe if you could define what you're understanding of the two terms mean to you,
then we might be able to elaborate.
As David already mentioned, one person's perception of traditional might be
another persons evaluation of no traditional.
The types of infections are evolving and the security industry is trying to keep up
with the change. What was traditional yesterday, requires non traditional methods
today to prevent an infection or compromise of your system.
Who knows, today's non traditional methods may be considered tomorrows traditional method.

(Now you should be totally confused.  ;D ;D ;D )
