Latest Windows Updates 1/10/2012- Strange behavior
« on: January 10, 2012, 08:33:20 PM »
I ran Windows Update and it said 6 important updates were available but only 5 were selected. I figured maybe the last one had to be done after the others so just applied the 5. after the required reboot, I ran WU again and it said the 6th update was available but again it was not selected by default. I ran it anyway and everything seems fine. It was the one concerning SSL and information disclosure, KB2585542. Has anyone else had this same behavior or is just me? It has never happened before like that.

I too ran a manual update check, no problem here. Though I was offered 7 updates I unchecked 1 (the Malicious software removal tools one, I never download that) and the others downloaded and installed as expected.

I forgot to check the don't tell me about this update again; after my reboot, a little while later I had the WU updates are available pop-up checking what was available it was the Malicious software removal tools. I declined this again and remembered to check the don't tell me about this again.

You don't say what the KB was that you had trouble with ?

I did say which one it was. It's there in my post.

Ah, missed that, it was offered on my update check and the download and installation succeeded.

@Dch48.

Ok, I got my updates this morning ( Automatic Updates ). Downloaded 7 updates and installed all of them. Then as I always do, I went to Microsoft Updates to look for any optional updates I might need, and I had one critical update, KB2585542, that was not downloaded with the others eventhouhg it was critical.  ???

That link is about the fixit they released prior to the actual patch from WU. Hopefully they fixed the issues in the patch. I installed it and so far there are no problems.
