Missed it sorry. But, it at least proves your correct assumption
about the behavior shield. Great tool for catching Zero Day stuff
but, still needs refining.

Ok im back, had to make a pit stop in the kitchen to make a couple ham sandwiches while the pc was rebooting so I opened up a new word doc typed a couple characters and hit print and it printed just fine with out messing with avast BUT why do I have this feeling that later today when I come back to test print again it wont work until I disable avast. lol

Not sure if you made it through the whole thread (got a bit lengthy for its actual content), but here are two keys that may interest you.

About the problem possibly coming back, I just posted this yesterday:

"One frustrating thing is that once it 'finds' the printer, it appears to remember it for a few days. For example, it sees the printers now. If I turn all of the behavior shield back on, it will see still see the printer for a bit, then lose it. For convenience, I am now just leaving that one thing unchecked..."

Based on that, it is my guess that it will show up if the Behavior Shield is re enabled...

The other thing is that you don't need to disable the whole Behavior Shield, but rather just one element of it under the Expert Settings - simply uncheck the 'Monitor the system for unauthorized modifications' box. That allows other aspects of it to still be providing protection....

Would it be appropriate for this user to also fill out a ticket? If the avast developers hear more about it, are they more likely to take it seriously? Those of us here are working to make sure we can get it fixed and keep avast, but there are other users out there on other forums just dropping avast with out even bothering to try a workaround... It really is in avast's interest to get this sorted out.

No ... from what I've seen too many times, filling out a ticket with Avast doesn't go anywhere most of the time. Problems are either solved on the forums with other users or with Avast devs either on the forums or privately via mail.

Maybe not related at all, but is the desired printer the default windows printer and also set as the default in microsoft starter 2010?

If Avast allows these two settings, one would think that the settings would survive a reboot and then work correctly.  I don't have Microsoft Starter, so can't check it.

Ok it has been two days since I posted and my wife just sent me a ms word doc from her laptop and I have that doc on my desktop and it won't print so before I turn I disable the behavior shield I thought maybe we could try some OTHER avast settings just in case it's not ONLY the shield keeping me from printing. Did that make sense? lol

I eagerly await a response while sitting here at 2:33 in the morning!!

I doubt you are still sitting by waiting to print, but....

I had tried disabling each shield, one by one. The behavior shield is what worked for me. In some other forums, someone mentioned the auto sandbox as the culprit, but disabling that had no impact on my ability to print.

If you are still not able to print, you could recreate those steps on your computer (disable each shield one by one) to see what works for you. If it is identical to my results, it might help avast focus on a particular area. If it is different, then that would help to know, but make resolving more difficult.
