i have downloaded vpsupd.exe externally to update my avast antivirus v6.0.1367 but it shows error to update
also i have tried to update it from avast user interface but it also shows error that internet connection is terminated
please help me to resolve this problem......

Have you tried to run a repair and reboot ? what was you previous AV and how did you remove it - did you run a removal tool to delet leftovers ? removal tools can be found here http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ After running tools reboot after each removal.
