W32/Sober-I titled "Oh God it's"
« on: November 28, 2004, 12:02:49 AM »
I have Avast 4.5 home edition which automatically updates. I've received an email informing me that I've got a virus and that an email with the title "Oh God it's" was sent by me with a virus called "W32/Sober-I". If I have a virus how did it get through and what do I do about it?

Ignore it (after deleting it that is).

Many emails that have contained viruses usually have forged email from addresses. Some dumb anti-virus programs actually send warnings to the supposed sender.

The email probably came from someone you don't even know as you and their email address were in someone else's address book.

Some can actually be trying to deceive you into clicking on a link or opening an attachment in order to remove the virus (infecting you, not cleaning the computer).

Trust in avast to stop incoming infection and stop outgoing infected email (if ever required, because nothing in life is 100% guaranteed).

vps 448-1 detects the latest version of Sober. So if you have that there is nothing to worry about.

If you want to make sure your system is ok, check if you have this vps and run a full system. Nothing found? Than you don't have it.
