aswclear6.exe error - wont uninstall ashServ.exe
« on: January 25, 2012, 08:08:14 AM »
Hi Guys.   I have managed to only partly uninstall Avast !. v.4.8.1356. Running on WinXP SP2.

ashServ.exe is still running(visible in the Task Manager). And unfortunately, the the Avast! configuration interface is uninstalled / deleted / not available from Start Menu or Add/Remove Programs. Also, the Avast! Service Icon does not appear in the Running Services at the Bottom right of the TaskBar.

I have tried to use the latest version of aswclear6.exe to get rid of the running service ashServ.exe.But no cigar.

aswclear6.exe kicks up the following errro: "The avast! self protection module is enabled. For this reason, the operation cannot be completed."

If I try to reboot via SAFE MODE, the computer crashes and reboots half way through the loading  /boot up process. Cant even get to the User login prompt.

SUGGESTIONS FOR FIX ?
