Another one whose Avast service stopped during the afternoon (and ballsed up my email.) Nothing worked to fix the problem, so I uninstalled and reinstalled, which seems to have fixed things...of course I also now have to reset my settings *again* as this is yet another Avast! error to ad to the pile during these past few months.
