e mail scanning
« on: November 29, 2004, 09:24:37 PM »
In Avast 4.5 (free version) I am having problems with the e-mail scanner. I am using Outlook Express 6 with Windows 98 on a Dell Dimension. I am dialling up to use the net not on continuously. When I send an attachment of any size I get a message that my server is going to time out. I set OE 6 to split messages but some people I am sending to cannot put them back together.  Also I get a warning message from Avast that there is a split message. I have increased the period for time out. Should I just keep increasing that? Or is there something else I can do?

What exact version of Avast are you using?
If it is not 4.5.542, I suggest you upgrade first, check if the problem is solved or not and let us know.

I'm using 4.5.523

How do I make sure I'm downloading the latest version?

Just tried to send an attachment of 350 Kb and was timed out. Can overide that but would prefer it to be automatic

My connection is obvioulsy active but  it seems to be due to the length of time filling the scanner

Should I just lengthen the time  in OE6 about timing inactivity?

That's all you have to do. Mine is set on 300 sec. and I never have a prob. with timeouts. ;D

Bart, can you try the last 4.5.542 version and post the results? Thanks.
