SSL Server connection
« on: November 30, 2004, 05:28:26 AM »
I updated  Avast 2 days ago and now i cant forward any emails via outlook express.
I use Bell Sympatico.....says server does not support an SSl connection....Bell people cant assist me...says its a S/W problem.
I get error.
I assume something is resident on my PC as I have uninstalled Avast and tried AVG.....problem still there.
Can someone assist?

Eddy r u suggesting I now try to reinstall....?
I uninstalled hoping I would get rid of problem. I suspect something still resident in my PC...registry?
I believe the last update 2/3 days ago caused the problem.

Alkapone, avast! does not support SSL connections.
If you uninstall it, try to clean with (http://files.avast.com/files/eng/avclear4.exe). I don't know if AVG has such an uninstall cleaner tool.

Anyway, can you check if the problem isn't in your firewall?

Please, we, non-native English have difficulties to read 'R' and 'u' (it was better: Are you suggesting that I turn off the firewall, which I can do if needed)  ;)

Yes, can you try disabling the firewall to see what you get?
Try a manual update of the program (not only the virus database).

Also make sure your browser is not set to "Work Offline" (this option is generally in the File menu). If it doesn't help, try switching the proxy settings from "Auto-detect" to "No proxy" (I'm assuming you're not connecting to the Internet via proxy).

Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy
