Avast Wins Top on OPSWAT report 2012

Hot Off The Press :  ;D

OPSWAT releases quarterly market share reports for several
sectors of the security industry. This report includes both
worldwide and North American market share for antivirus

AVAST Soware has had a strong lead in the worldwide
antivirus market for the past two years, with 16.69% in 2010
and 15.92% in 2011. Avira, AVG and ESET follow in this year’s
rankings, each with over 10% of the market.  Symantec holds
the fih position with 9.71% of the worldwide market. While
some shiing has occurred between 2010 and 2011, the
vendors that appear in the top 10 remain the same, with the
exception of Trend Micro, who rose to push PC Tools from the
10th position.

Glad that avast is number one but I cannot understand how OPSWAT gets an accurate figure from their removal software. Not everybody uses this software to uninstall their antivirus and once it is uninstalled, how does OPSWAT know what was installed. Does it leave traces on the Computer?
