Windows says avast is not up to date
« on: November 30, 2004, 09:59:34 PM »
I just installed avast home and uninstalled Norton.  When I restarted my pc, i got the network shield in the taskbar with a warning that says avast is not up to date.  I registered avast and restarted again, and I'm still getting the warning.  Also, on the Windows security screen, there is a note under the warning that says "Windows does not detect all antivirus programs."  Can anyone give me advice on these issues?   By the way, I'm somewhat of a newbie in the pc intelligence arena.

What exact version of Avast do you have?
Is your system date/time correct?

OK, while looking for the version, I apparently fixed the problem.  On the avast screen, where it says "current version of virus database", I clicked on the number next to it, and it apparently updated the database, and now the windows security warning is gone.  I thought that I had it set to auto update, and maybe I did and I'm missing something.  Now I've exposed my ignorance.   ::)

Thanks.  This is the first computer of my own, and I'm just learning how important security is.  I actually got this (laptop) for school, and it locked up 8 times on me during a 3 hour exam, which I was typing.  It really caused me some huge problems and serious anguish, so I'm trying to figure out what's wrong and stay on top of it.

Is anyone besides me wondering on what number he clicked to get it to update?

The VPS version number in the Simple UI (first line).

VLK,

Thank you.  Never realized it did that.
I've had my Avast's set to auto download since installed.

Take Care.

I asked a lot of times and nobody answered me  :P
Is it possible to set avast to alert the Security Center of old definitions like in AntiVir?
