How can I disable scanprocess when Windows starts
« on: December 02, 2004, 11:41:27 AM »
My PC is very slow when the internal protection scan is operating when Windows starts.
I've already disabled VRDB but that didn't help.
When the scan stops after a view minutes I can normaly open folders without seconds delay.

I don't see a option to disable 'autoscan' in the 'Standard Shield' section  (AVG has that option and it was also very slow when enabled).

You can set your protection level to 'Normal' instead of high.

when Windows starts. I've already disabled VRDB but that didn't help. When the scan stops after a view minutes I can normaly open folders without seconds delay.

You can't avoid that the resisdents start. Their not 'scanning', just 'openning'.
You can disable the providers you do not use.

If I understood you, there isn't such this option...
Are you talking about boot time scanning?

It is already in normal mode.

I can see in the standard shield that Avast is scanning files and the trayicon is moving constantly for a view minutes

I've disabled all the modes I don't use but that don't have any effect on that scanning when Windows starts.

Windows loads hundreds of files at boot time, Avast's on-access scanners scans them, this is normal behaviour.

If you don't want Avast to scan a file, add it to the exclusion list.

It's normal, as I said, the protection is starting...

You can't make it better...
Look, performance and protection are opposite one from the other. Protection takes resources. Less resources, lower performance. But, more protection less headaches  ;D

When I add a new folder or textfile during the startscanning sometimes explorer  isn't responding anymore.
And Mailwasher can't connect the first view minutes.

But I try to live with that.  :'(

AMD Athlon 1200
WinXP Pro
ADSL 1024/256 Kbit (via ethernet router/switch)

The startscan contains not only systemfiles; my D: drive with standalone applications (games etc.) is also part of the scan.
Each reboot a next part of de D: drive is scanning.

My previous scanner (AVG) did the same and has a disable button.
If Avast dont't have this maybe a idea for the next programupdate?

I returned to an old image with Avast program version (4.1.501).
That version is scanning too, but I don't have the internetconnect problem.

Do the newer versions have another kind of IP-check?

what other programmes are set to start at boot-time, any p2p?

1 machine (on my home intranet) is AMD 1200 and quite old by current standards and the latest avast! update hasn't made any difference to the boot-up time.

Mailwasher is the only internet access program that is starting automatically.

The total bootup time is not increased, but after start, during scanning, my mousepointer becomes a sandglass.

1] Make sure the system is free from any malware. (See my webpage).
2] Disable all things from loading at boottime that aren't really needed for the system to work properly. (Use StartUp.cpl for that).
3] Disable all processes you are not using.

Is already so.

My system is clean from malware and unnecessary software.  ;D
(HitmanPro didn't find anything)

I make a image every day (automatically) en after a long internetsession with suspecting sites I go back to the previous image.
(autoscript with DeployCenter).
