I too am experiencing the same issue. My OS: Windows 7 ultimate.

I am experiencing other issues. I am unable to use my Windows Live Mail program and other programs are not loading eg Java dependent programs which is why I am running avast in the first place.

I had Advanced SystemCare installed and thought it could be a problem so I uninstalled. No improvement other than computer loading a bit faster.

nrfw: Can you please try to following?
1. Disable avast! self-defense (Settings / Troubleshooting)
2. Stop avast! Behavior Shield
3. Start the scan again and wait until it gets stuck
4. Open Task Manager, on the Processes tab select AvastSvc.exe, rightclick on it and select "Create dump file".
5. Wait for the dump creation to be finished (i.e. till the Cancel button turns into OK). You'll see the location where the dump was created, and you can copy&paste that test.
6. Rename this file to something unique, or compress it into a uniquely named archive, and upload it to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

Thanks!
