Streaming update status
« on: February 24, 2012, 12:23:32 AM »
On the UPDATE page in the AVAST UI where the streaming status is, it says "Streaming Updates: ENABLED" but under Connection "Connection: Connection not established". Is this correct for the connection status--will streaming updates work?

Did you give it a little while? This is a normal status e.g. right after a boot, but it should connect in a minute or two (or three)...

BTW do you happen to connect to the Internet via a proxy?

Thanks

Streaming updates are over and above the regular auto VPS updates.

There may be times when the connection to the streaming update servers aren't connected, so when they are unavailable you can't get them.

Generally you will see the Connection is established (as Vlk said), as it is currently on mine.

System has been up for over an hour. Have never seen it connected. Under cloud services, streaming updates is ENABLED. (Internet connection and operation is fine). Also, the is just "---" after latest update received.

I don't connect to the Internet via a proxy.

And when you go to the folder "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\defs\" , do you see any subfolder called something_stream there?

Thanks

I don't have that exact folder. I have:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\defs which contains aswdefs.ini and a folder named 12022301

(Updated from last offical v6 release to this via update UI).

For now it doesn't look like it has connected for you, the folder takes the same format as the VPS defs sub-folders with _stream after the version number, see image example.

I don't know if toggling the Enable streaming updates off and on in the avastUI, Settings, Cloud Services and see if that bump starts it.

Toggling the settings did nothing.

I think that you probably have (given you say the system has been up for an hour), but have you rebooted since the update ?

Are your other updates working, e.g. what is the virus definitions version you have, latest 120223-1 ?

Virus def ver is 120223-1. I have rebooted a number of times since the update (3+). THe last time, system has been up for over an hour. In fact, I just finished a FULL manual SCAN. (it is OK).

I would like to know what others are seeing, some may not even notice this new status or question it... (ones not testing and using RC's up until now).

That pretty much confirms that your firewall isn't blocking avast updates, which I believe the streaming updates use the same type of connection.

I'm showing the same as in David's screenshot -- the file in the _stream subfolder is all of 1K on mine.

Slightly OT, but closely related -- is there some kind of notification when there's been an actual update via the streaming process, similar (or at least analogous) to the green popup for "normal" updates?

What is your operating system?
Do you have Virus definition updates set to "Auto"?
