Email not working on replies
« on: December 05, 2004, 06:32:27 AM »
Here's a strange one. I could never get email working through Avast; I was about to give up, when 4.5.542 arrived. And now it partially works.

What's weird is that I can send a fresh message; but if I reply to any message that 've received; then the email processor locks up and times out.  Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

I'm using Thunderbird 0.5 and Windows 2000

Thats realy strange - but may be it's a bug in Thunderbird - we are now on Release Canditate 1.0 - so perhaps You update first Thunderbird at least to 0.9 and then check again.

Added : is your W2000 fully upgraded ??

Just installed RC1 and getting the same problem.

Aah! Here's something. If I email myself a fresh message, I can 'reply' to that one.

But ... still not letting me reply to a message I receive from anyone else ....

Odd. Very odd. Is there any way to get debuggging info out of Avast!?

My Windows2000 is up to date.

Seems the software cobolds are now at your place  ;)

For access to the log files right click on Avast blue ball, select  Avast! Log Viewer - there You are able to browse the log files.

For direct Access the log files are located at:
C:\Programme\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log (at least in my installation - default folder, German W2000)

To Increase log level, edit the avast4.ini file and set
LoggingLevel=20
(thats in the common section)

BTW - are You running any spam filter application or any other software which is scanning mails beside Avast ??

PS : have to do my morning walk now with my 2 dogs - so I'll be back in about 2 hours

No problem ... I have a bit of work to do now anyway; I'll try the debug stuff later.

I did have NAV on my machine, but I've removed it. I've got Ad-Aware on my machine too; but I don't think that runs in background as far as I know.

If You have removed NAV with uninstall, then there may be still some entries and modules left.

The best is to fetch the uninstall utility from Norton websites and use this to remove it completly.

The tool can be downloaded here:
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/Rnav2003.exe

There are always problems with left overs from NAV  >:(

What happens if you increase the timeout in both the email client and avast4.ini?
