Running Windows 7. Pop-up appeared for update to Avast. Clicked pop-up. Installed update completely after restart. Opened Google Chrome. google.com not accessible. facebook.com not accessible. forum.avast.com not accessible. mail.google.com IS accessible. Turned off Avast, all websites accessible. Any help is appreciated.
This sounds like a firewall issue blocking AvastSvc.exe. Since Avast doesn't scan HTTPS traffic, you are able to access mail.google.com (and any other HTTPS sites). Try removing the Avast programs from your firewall's list of programs allowed internet access. The firewall should then request your permission to allow them again.
These Avast programs need to be allowed.
AvastSvc.exe
AvastUI.exe
avast.setup
What software firewall are you using?
