I see a newer version is out, so I tried again with it in my clean VM. I still get AvastUI.exe crashes. I do not see its task bar icon either. I do see avastsvc.exe and avasui.exe processes running in task manager. They are hogging CPU. :O

Its web page still shows nothing about W2K. :(

hi, would it be possible to get a mdmp file from the avastUI crash? It should be in avast directory.
Quality is also a feature.

Hallo c64,
how did you install V7:

1. over the GUI?
2. clean install?

I simply updated the software from version 6 to 7, over the GUI.

me too, but I am having problem sometimes when I save something in Excel (it happens since I was using Ver. 6).

Lukas, could Dr. Watson's memory dump work?
With my VM test avastUI.exe crashed just after installation, but not after reboot.
And there is no mdmp file on avast directory, only Dr. Watson's one (user.dmp and drwtsn32.log).

user.dmp is worth trying, maybe it can reveal something.

+1 :'(

Same problems as before with 7.0.1426!!! :(

I haven't a .dmp-file, because I hadn't a crash or BSOD, but can I send you my setup.log? Perhaps it can help you to find the problem!

Where can I send it to?

Uploaded dump file to the FTP.
Filename: NON_w2k_dump.7z

@~SKY~
Do you have .mdmp file at C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log\ ?

No, I haven't!
Because of this, maybe my setup.log could help, too...

@lukas.hasik

A few minutes ago I send you an E-Mail with my setup.log.

Perhaps it could help you to find a solution.

I'm afraid setup.log is definitely of no use, it's completely unrelated.

I tried to check the NON's dump, but so far I've been unable to load it... my tools won't load this old format. :(

The NON's dump seems to have something to do with some missing language tables (OS bug, it certainly shouldn't try to use them if it doesn't have them).
What are your regional settings (Windows language, Windows regional settings, avast! language)?
Thanks.

Thanks for checking.

Windows language: Japanese
Windows regional settings (locale): Japanese
Windows regional settings (System language): Japanese (default) / Western Europe and U.S.A.
avast! language: Japanese (in use) / English (additionally installed)

W2k has "Illegal Character"(Mojibake)  issue with avast! Japanese and some other multi-language software, so we have to install some additional registry entry (fontlink) to avoid that.
Registry data is attached (user-made, not official).
Other windows settings are all default value.

Edit: typo
