Sounds like your software firewall is blocking Avast 7.  Most firewalls will ask permission to allow a program that has been changed internet access.   If you reinstall Avast 7, you can try removing the AvastSvc.exe permissions from your firewall via it's interface.  Hopefully, when you use your browser, the firewall will ask for your permission again.

Re-installed Avast7, but couldn't figure out how.  :( :(

Thanks!

What firewall are you using?  The interface will vary depending on which firewall you have installed.  Are you being blocked from browsing the internet.

The winXP firewall has zero outbound protection so shouldn't be blocking the avast Web Shield (localhost proxy), avastSvc.exe.

If things worked with avast6 prior to an update to avast7 I suggest you try a clean install of avast7:
- Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1426 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).
  • 1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.

@ al3lka

i use zone alarm as fire wall and my window version is 7.

i am running windows xp, but my firewall is turned off.

The winXP firewall has zero outbound protection so...

Which firewall is off ? Windows XP or ZoneAlarm ? Are you sure ZA does not have in its rules avastSvc.exe and avast.setup. Also you said your Windows is 7, but then you said is XP. so what is it ?

 @ iroc9555,

I think you have the posted information confused, which often happens when people add on to existing threads.

The original OP's problem is resolved (al3lka), who uses Win 7 and has ZA.

A new OP (SEWalke) with a similar problem, has XP and using Avast 7 with the XP Firewall turned off.

So the suggestion given by DavidR to SEWalke to do an uninstall and clean install of Avast would be correct in his previous post.
