AVAST DID NOT PICK A VIRUS
« on: February 20, 2012, 02:01:49 AM »
Hey all, I'm new to AVAST.   Despite running full AVAST, it did not pick up a VIRUS (i presume), that i know i have in my desktop pc (windows 7).   At random this little, what looks like an ANT, runs around my screen then runs off.    It is obviously designed to make people think they have an ant on their screen and, not knowing any better, here i am trying to squish it.   Until i realised its a virus that i've had for only a couple of days.

I've done a full malwarebytes scan and Avast obviously and nothing was picked up.    ANY SUGGESTIONs, on what i can do next - i have no idea how damaging this is or could be.   I'm not that computer literate, as one could see.

Cheers

As funny as this sounds, are you sure it is not just a real life ant?  There is room between layers on a screen for an ant to get between then get stuck, with nothing to do but run around till it dies.  Try giving it stimulus, like flick the screen in front of where it is running to see if it responds.

If it is actually a software ant and not a biological one, it might be a screensaver of some sort.  I just hesitate to think it is an actual infection in both Avast! and MBAM found nothing.  Are you sure you updated Malwarebytes before you ran it?

I also think that this is maybe just a "funny" screensaver.
Turn your screensaver off and see, if the ant returns. ;D

I'm curious to hear of the outcome. Was it a biological or digital ant?

Perhaps, it's a computer bug.

Well, kidding aside, does it look like this one?

UPD: And check what your currently selected screensaver is.
