IMPORTANT! Fix utility for corrupted avast! v6/v7 installations

Hi,

there is newer fix [1] that should cover all the other situations where the original script reported "error code 2 or 11" althrough your avast setup was corrupted.

Please let us know if this doesn't work for you.

Please locate the file C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\Setup\part-setup_ais-57f.vpx and upload it to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
(You can just open the mentioned FTP url in Windows Explorer and drag&drop the mentioned file there.)

The program has been successfully repaired.
Do you want to start the program update now?

Clicking "yes" didn't seem to do anything.  However!  I can once again update my copy of avast! 7!  All up-to-date with virus definitions version 120228-0!

Notes:

1) The new fix is at the same link as the old fix that didn't work.  This is a little unclear.  Just click the same link again and re-download & run it.
2) After it worked, it asked if I wanted to start the program update now.  I answered "NO" because I don't want v7 yet.
3) I then updated Virus Defs and it got 28-1

Done the same process but not working in my Avast! Free Antivirus Version 7.0.1407

at NON, Koam: try a complete uninstall

1. Download a fresh Avast! 7 package from http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download (to reduce chance of corrupted install)
2. uninstalling Avast! the normal way with windows
3. run Avast! uninstall utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (please do it in SAFE MODE!   )
4. run the uninstall utility (2 TIMES) total, one for Avast! 7
5. reboot and go into safe mode once more, second time for Avast! 6 (this is because i noted u have updated to Avast! 7 from Avast! 6)
6. reboot again, this time to normal windows mode
7. install the fresh package
8. please report ur findings here =)

Note: if u receive fatal error through normal uninstall in step 2, skip that step and go to step 3

Please do something about this error message. it's more important than not being able to update because we cant even operate avast 7 right now!

I just downloaded the fix, the second computer I clicked to run the fix on, gave a message to say that the problem has now been fixed, and did I still want to run the fix. I clicked no.

I guess avast has fixed the issue without having to download the fix???

The fix is one thing.  Updating the program (from 6 to 7) is another.  The question was about Updating the program, not the fix.

What happens when you invoke a virus definitions update?

The tool is the fix, there's no additional download (unless you're on version 6 and choose to update to version 7).
