avastsvc.exe high CPU consumption
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:48:49 PM »
Hi,
After I updated avast to 7.0.1407, I've noticed that the process avastsvc.exe has been running at at least 40% on my laptop, which slows it down A LOT!
I've tried uninstalling the program, and then reinstalling it but the process still runs at a high level consumption.
This reduces the battery life of my laptop quite a lot, and is a pretty annoying issue.

What should I do to solve this problem?
My laptop is currently running Windows7(32-bit version), on Intel SU9400 processor, 4gb ram.

If you pause all the shields (from tray icon), is the CPU usage down to normal?

Thanks for helping me out.
Nope, it's still the same, running at >50% CPU usage.
BTW, the mail shield won't start, saying I have to enable avast! service first.

Could you check the statistics tab in Avast? Compare each shield from the days before the update ("last week"). Is any of the shields scanning "much" more files than before the program update?

Try rebooting and comparing again the activity and the CPU usage (wait about 10 or 15 minutes after the reboot so to start the comparison).

I can't check right now, since I've completely removed and reinstalled the program. However, before I uninstalled the program, I had a look at the statistics. There was nothing peculiar with the amount of files scanned...

Before re-installing, I'd suggest http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility under Windows Safe Mode.
