Avast7 GUI does not support very secure passwords.
« on: February 28, 2012, 06:21:23 PM »
So I was having problems connecting my account with my PAID Avast7 Internet Security.  I was going crazy trying to figure out why I could log into the web portal JUST FINE, but not connect via the GUI ??? .  I was continually getting the message about incorrect login or password  :-\ .  I even submitted a support ticket about this.

Well, while waiting for an answer :'( , I got curious as when Id use the 'Create Account' feature and use some "SHIFT" character's (from the numerical set) but be told I wasnt creating a long enough password ??? .  This is when I logged back into the orginal account, via the web portal, and changed it to a basic password using ONLY letters and numbers (not very secure in this day and age) then tried "Connect" feature in the GUI...

VIOLA!!!  I could now connect my account via the GUI just fine :) .

Okay, so I know right now there isnt much one can do from the web portal ;) , other than UNLINK my account (which would be enough to sway my devout trust in Avast :-[ ).  However, I am betting that this will soon change.  I can even see this being a tool to help provide 'Remote Assistance', but still with verification codes, in the future so in case we aren't on a PC running Avast but our family PC needs some changing or something.  I would also bet that this will be a place we can renew our subscriptions :-X .

Maybe Im just a visionary...  8)

Either way, I think that the GUI should support, as the web portal does, more secure password set-up than your basic alphabet and number system :o ...

I can type them into the webportal but not the GUI.  This after a fresh install as well.  I can try the update tool but want to find out how many others have this issue.  Myabe this machine has been compromised... shouldnt though.  Its running Avast.

AWESOME!!!!  Thanks for the attention.  I thought it was just an oversight, being the webportal allows for them.  Cant wait for this to be fixed!!!
