Upgrading to Avast 7x results in losing control of files/folders (Access Denied)

administrator privilages on XP should have full access?

Hi I've been following the thread on here about the bugs in the new version 7. I currently had my Internet Security version 6 expire. Window is popping up for me to renew subscription to version 7 but after reading about the issues I want to stay with version 6 for now. Is there a way I can renew to same version 6 so I don't suffer all the issues I'm reading about?

Hello I am having similar issues with vs 7.0.1426 after the update every time I save a file <.doc> to my pen drive it saves the original file fine but when i try to access it and then modify it and save the file again I get the error "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error. F:\test 12.doc" then it creates a temp file and deletes the original file F:\test 12.doc <it only applies to .doc files that i can tell so far> there was a fix in the blog BUT it was only for win xp 32 bit and of course I have the 64-bit vs does someone have a 64 bit vs fix for this error

@rjpjrblue: is there any pop-ups from avast? does the problem occur on ur local drive or only files from ur pen drive?
                   if it is the latter, it should be a different problem.

please post a screenshot of the error(s) from both windows and avast if any.

@AntiVirusASeT thank you for your response it is only on my pen drives that are affected  I called Microsoft earlier this week they did take control of my PC and did msconfig disabled all services and rebooted pen drives started to work again we kept adding services till avast was added and then the problem showed up. I don't know how to do a screen shot but what the only pop up says is inside Word and that is and i quote "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error. F:\test 12.doc" end quote And when avast is running i can save any other file format including .txt and i can reedit and save with no issues just .doc Microsoft said since it happened in the last few weeks it had to be something i downloaded and that was the only new thing i downloaded i don't know what else to do but disable avast when i want to work with my pen drive thanks sincerely rjpjrblue

if ur free u might want to try disabling all shields in avast and activate them one by one to see which shield causes the problem.

also try accessing and modifying the .doc files when all shields are disabled.

avast team ppl may only come around the coming monday as it is the weekends now.

I too have Access Denied problems. Mine show Archive is password protected.

I run Windows XP. I am an administrator.

I have tried disabling all Real Time scans. When I add each back one by one and scan a file that gave me this message, it scans the file. I am not going to take the time to scan each and every file on my computer. This may take days.
 I did try to just scan the C drive, Documents and Settings only, with no real time scans running and the reults were it scanned with no problems.
 So if the problem lies withing scanning the whole system, I am not going to take the time to scan the whole computer 7 times to figure out which is the culprit, since it takes a good hour or so to complete each time.

I will run the program without real time scans and if that does not work, I will just find some other program that works without so many complications.

I do not use any of these in "real time", but these are also programs I use:
Spybot- Search and Destroy
Malware bytes Antimalware
SuperAnti Spyware

I also use:
CCleaner
SlimCleaner

Welcome to the forum.

Avast! is not a password cracker but an antivirus program. It can't scan a password protected archive since it doesn't know the password,
It will scan the file before it's run once the password is provided. The file is not dangerous even if it where infected till it's extracted.
Looking at the programs you're using the file is most likely related to SuperAnti Spyware.

I'm not free i just bought a 1 year license 3 weeks ago,  BUT I did disabled the file system shield and that resolved the issue thanks @AntiVirusASeT but is keeping that shield disabled going to leave me open to viruses, etc? sincerely rjpjrblue

I think that when AntiVirusASet asked you " If you are free ", he meant time to try each shield individually, and yes having Avast! File System Shield disable will lower your security so enable it again.

yup, remember to turn on file system shield when ur not using ur pen drive.

just a shot in the dark (even though theres no popup from avast), try disabling autosandbox under file system shield settings and try modifying .doc files in ur pen drive.

this is because autosandbox has one of the most changes recently from avast v6 to v7...maybe the cause of the problem.

I don't seem to have autosandbox in this vs I looked all through-out the settings and all other areas and still could not find it I reinstalled vs 7.0.1426 from avast website and it did not include autosandbox as an option to install. Is it called something else I remember it being in vs 6.xx but i don't know where its at in vs 7.0.1426 . I looked in "file system shield"

yes originally it was a custom as i install most software in custom BUT to be able to select all available options but since everything was already marked under typical i just left it as typical then when i reinstalled it again just to double check myself i selected express and still same results no autosandbox i downloaded it right from avast inside my account features so i don't know why it did not show up during install thanks sincerely rjpjrblue

Sorry, the sandbox features (including autosandbox) are not supported on XP x64.
