Avast 7/Chrome "install" overwrote existing Chrome install
« on: March 03, 2012, 05:18:35 PM »
I had Google Chrome installed for my specific user account, since I used it for web development purposes.  I had a lot of plugins and more importantly, open tabs.

Imagine my surprise when, after upgrading to Avast 7 and rebooting, I was told that my user-level install had been replaced by a system level install.  Imagine my horror when I opened it, found all of my configuration and open tabs gone, and the only extension installed is Avast Web Rep.

Now, it's possible that I missed a checkbox that said "install Chrome" somewhere.

Regardless, this is completely inappropriate.  This is why bundled software is a bad idea.  This is why not getting active consent for every install is a bad idea.

This is why I will be finding another antivirus solution.

I think the lost tabs may be recoveried by Recuva, if the tabs are on file.
