can't get past startup repair
« on: March 13, 2012, 04:34:39 PM »
I downloaded avast yesterday on my win7 laptop did updates and ran it it suggested a start up repair before windows starts up so i restarted my comp. It started the repair

but it says startup repair could not automatically repair this comp  and shuts down the comp.

i have tried system restore but it says a system restore point has not been created  on this comps system drive   and  i can't  seem to get into safe mode to get around it and unistall pressing f5 just brings up a window that says start up windows 7 or doing a mem diagnostics

how can i get around this problem.

NEVER install multiple AV programs....it will give you all kind of windows errors and false positive detections
CCleaner is not a antivirus.......AVG is, and should have been removed before install

if you recently attached a device to the computer such as a camera or portable music player remove it and restart your computer.  if you continue to see this message contact your system admin or comp manufacturer for assistance.

i have no devices plugged in other than my wireless  mouse.

Do you have the windows CD

On the startup/recovery screen select command prompt

Select Repair my computer

 Select Command prompt

Type in the following

bootrec /fixmbr

then

bootrec /fixboot

If not we will have to rebuild the BCD

It's currently at 60%, doing a full scan. If you have other things to do please don't feel like you have to stay for me. Again thank you for all the help.

guys i fking hate bsod
wasted 2 hours trying to find a solution
posting this cause u dont
if the above two commands dont work try this

Fix: Win7 keep on go into StartupRepair / boot manager failed to find os loader

Solution:

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE (Window Recovery Console). To do this, follow these steps:
Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
Press a key when you are prompted.
Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then clickNext.
Click Repair your computer.
Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Bootrec.exe options
The Bootrec.exe tool supports the following options. Use the option that is appropriate for your situation.
Note: If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
