wait.. so avast gets defintions from users??? How is this good ? wont it plunder detection rate if people dont particpate in avast! comunity???

Yeah, but it doesn't get all of the definitions that way.

Could not participating in Community hurt detection rates.....I suppose, at least a little.  One user is a tiny drop in the pond so the minority that turn it off (or even realize the option is there) wont make much waves.   Maybe if a whole lot of users turned it off, some negative impact could be measured, but that is not going to happen.

Still.. Maybe thats why avast got low detection rates last year??? Shoudlnt they rely on something else too?

Do you realy think that Avast! does not have a virus lab ? Where do vps come from ?

No, Avast! collects info on all infections and suspicious files from members around the world for further analisys.
