AIS Definition Updates?

Last two a/v updates have been over 100Mb, is this right? Yesterday was 90Mb and today was around 100Mb...120315-1?

What sizes are you talking about? The size of the virus definition updates is in hundreds of KB, not MB.

Megabytes...usually the updates are in Kb but did a manual update today and it was around 100MB...have latest version of AIS!

It also depends upon the number of definitions to update. Some updates are larger than others.

And how did you measure (where did you see) the update size?

From my usage screen, however will keep an eye out, just seems strange that after an update seemed to gobble up so much bandwidth.

for me it says 75.7 MB (79,400,960 bytes) and i use avast free.

Just did a manual update to 120315-1 defs and nothing special with the size. A couple of hundreds kilobytes.
(avast free).

What you report is definitely something to investigate further.

Your picture is of the whole Virusdef folder, but only a very little part of that folder is updated via
Avast's incremental updates each time. Let's be glad for that.

No they aren't and no they aren't anywhere close to 100 MB, the whole program download which includes virus definitions is only 73MB.

You still haven't shown how this 100MB comes about the full virus definitions database when unpacked on the hard disk is only 70.6MB. See image of my defs folder, it will usually have two sub folders the current and previous one. When a new incremental update is received a new sub-folder is created and the old virus definitions database and the incremental updates are merged into the new sub-folder. All of this happens locally on your system and it doesn't download the whole database.

So whatever source you are getting this from that the download was 100MB is royally screwed.

The avast virus definitions updates are incremental and are measured in KBs rather than MBs
