No, I rather change my virusscanner, because changing from AVG to Avast was my latest software action.

Updating my firewall is not an option because I can't register my free version
The real problem (as even Norman admits) is the firewall.
Changing to another av doesn't change the culprit that is causing the bsod. Changing to another (free) software firewall or getting a router/firewall is the solution to your problem.

Norman PF is for me the best free firewall ever (tried them all).
Changing is no option.

I'm now using Avast 4.1.501 and thats no problem at all.

Avast versions higher then 4.1.501 are also locking and freezing up my computer (I'm not the only one with that problem) so I won't install that anyway.

(and that's no NPF problem  ;D)

So if 4.1.501 is not save anymore, please tell me and I will go back to AVG.

Strange but I think this is not the reason... changing the av won't be the solution. Your problem will still be there, want you or not... We must discover what is in conflict: firewall, a low-level security application (or backup like Norton GoBack)...  ::)

It's so easy.

Avast installed: blue screen
Avast not installed: no blue screen

NPF may have a problem but Avast is triggering it!

Updating Norman solves it !!

You are hitting a tree with your car because you can't drive. So removing the tree is the solution according to you.

We say: Learn to drive.

This has become an exercise in futility.

wdv: I got answer from Norman Personal Firewall team you should upgrade your firewall to v1.42 version, because they had some problems with TDi driver in v1.3 which you're using.

If you have other problems with NPF in future, please let me know.
You received this reply in Reply #2 of this thread back on 11/18/04 and you still haven't learned. It's not possible to help someone who wouldn't accept help. IMHO, it's a waste of time to give advise to a person who refuses to even make an attempt to try a perfectly valid suggestion. :'(

Sorry but this leads to nothing. :'(

NPF is NOT the problem anymore!

I did refer to my other problem with the freezing problem because that's the main reason for not using the newest Avast versions.

I removed NPF but that (freezing) problem stayed!

So please FORGET NPF en just tel me or Avast 4.1.501 is save to use.
(is there a important new facility in newer versions?)

I did not find any information about that.

I agree in that reply #2 pretty much said it all as to the problem/s. If wdv wishes perhaps he should go back to AVG? Then he can try and get forum tech support or help with them. Who knows? Perhaps if that can be done he can resolve his issue. :)

I've got similar problem. Avast installs OK but machine won't boot. I get two different messages on blue screen....either Unknown hard error  or  bad pool caller.  I also use Kerio. Had no problems with either till I updated to ver 4.5 Avast.

Using Win Xp home.

I can uninstall in safe mode & machine boots OK.

I'm using AVG again.

My PC runs a lot smoother now.

There are a lot problems with Avast and always Avast seems not to be the problem according to the experts ::)

In this case, the problem isn't with the experts, it's with a user who refuses to update an old version of a program. I wish you luck with AVG and I assume this thread is now finished. ;D

1. Grosstea don't use NPF  ;D

2. NPF was not the "slow system" problem  ;D

3. Please read better next time  :o

But serious; I still have a lot respect for Avast and the Awill team.
Avast is a good product, but not for me right now.

So it's beter to closed this thread now.

Grosstea,  please start a new topic.

I believe my reply was addressed to you. Unfortunately I don't know what's causing Grosstea's problem and as you said it should be posted in a different thread because it's not the same problem.

Grosstea
Please repost your problen in a new thread and supply us with more information.
Thanks

I have the latest versions of avast! and Kerio running on XP Home and I've had no problems like this.
