Avast 4.5 and FreePops

Hello you all,
does anyone have an idea of how to configure Mozilla Thunderbird to fetch email messages on hotmail using Freepops and allowing Avast to check the incoming messages anyway?
In the Freepops tutorial there is a modification for the 'old' version of Avast, but with the new email checking engine, I don't know what -and if- I should modify.

Not sure if this combination has been discussed using thunderbird and freepops as opposed to OE and freepops, but a search of these forums for Freepops will probably return some information as setting up freepops has been discused before.
