Cannot update virus definitions
« on: November 20, 2012, 07:48:31 PM »
Hi there. Running XP Pro 32 bit.

After installing MS updates yesterday I have been unable to update virus definitions. (Don't know if this is relevant but MS updates turned my Windows firewall off and I  had to manually turn it on again)

I read on here to do a repair of avast but was unable to. I have copied the log:

Seems something's gone wrong and quite possibly avast has updated itself to the new version even tho' I have set it to ask me first. This is my laptop; recreational machine. My work machine is running XP Pro and it's 64 bit. I am afraid I will encounter problems  with it too.

Can anyone help please?
Thank you.

Hi there Pondus. Oh I did. I searched for my particular error and found many posts but none were very recent and I just got really confused. Thought someone here might help so posted. I'm on my work machine now (XP Pro 64bit) and it updated and seems to be working correctly. It too was MS updated yesterday. It's also running avast 7.0.1426. If you don't mind helping, maybe you could direct me to the posts you think might help me please? TIA.

Thank you Pondus. I appreciate your help and really didn't want to bother anyone but was quite lost. Thank you for that link. I will try to update my notebook now. Have a great day.

I am still getting the update error.

You might have just to wait a little longer.
Hectic-mmv from the Avast Team wrote that a fix is being uploaded to all the update servers.
