a question about 7.0.1426
« on: March 26, 2012, 04:04:49 PM »
I replaced my current version with the new one 7.0.1426.
Now I have real-time shields off. They suggest to click
button FIX NOW but nothing happens.
So it does not work now for free version?
I have windows XP, no other protections.

1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

I did it now.  Nothing  happened.  All the same.   >:(
And it could be because I downloaded the last version yesterday.

How did you install Avast! 7 ? Clean install or through UI ?

All answers there are in the very first post
AVAST Free
Windows XP
No other sec,

the previous AVAST version worked good.
It happened only after I installed the new version.
I deleted the previous version through Control Panel -> all programms -> ... delete AVAST
And then downloaded it from the AVAST site.
Nothing special.

??? Guess, I'm blind then.. ;D :P

Anyway...

1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Asyn,
Your advise works before I turn off computer.
After I turn my computer on I have the same situation with Avast, real-time shields off.
Now I have to kill Avast and reload it again every time I turn on my computer.
It is ridiculous !
May be it needs to repair this AVast version  ?!

Hey galinanc, I'm working to solve a similiar problem with my XP and Avast and was wondering if I could ask you a question about the shields?
Are all shields off or just some? Maybe just mail off, web and network on but not scanning?
If you don't want to answer there would be no hard feelings.  :)

Thanks

Hi Duster6524.
your question does not much understandable for me.
When I have real-time shields off, I see above Avast icon yellow exclamation sign.
If I click on avast icon and open its page, where summary, current status, there are several lines.
The first one is real-time shields and the word off, and suggestion to click button FIX NOW, what does not work at all.
I do not know if I've explained you correctly :-)

You said that you updated from Avast! v.6. Did it work right ? Any other AV before Avast! ?

Did you run aswclear in safe mode first for v.7 reboot and then in safe mode for v.6 reboot again ?

No, I do not know what version I had before I update to 7.
I have had Avast for a long time and I do not remember which AV I had before. May be AVG
I run  aswclear not in safe mode but I follow the instruction, disabled avast, in settings and then
in troubleshooting unchecked  all positions and then run  aswclear,  reload system and then downloaded ver 7

Today I  gave up with 7 and downloaded 5.0.677

i recommend if u have the time, cause its going to be lengthy

1. Download a fresh Avast! 7 package from http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download (to reduce chance of corrupted install)
2. uninstalling Avast! the normal way with windows
3. run Avast! uninstall utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (please do it in SAFE MODE!   )
4. run the uninstall utility (4 TIMES) total, one for Avast! 7
5. reboot and go into safe mode again, 2nd time for Avast! 6, 3rd Avast! 5, 4th Avast! 4 (this is because u do not know which version u updated from, thus the need to thoroughly clear all remnants of Avast! from each version).
NOTE: each time u run the uninstall utility for each version, u need to restart and go into safe mode again!
6. reboot again, this time to normal windows mode
7. install the fresh package

if this still fails to solve ur problems, please generate the general support package for Avast! team to look into.
see the screenshot.
