Cant stop UNSECAPP from auto running?
« on: March 27, 2012, 02:17:57 AM »
I have a new machine that is running a pre-installed OS.  Iv used the minimized recovery method to try and stop the following process from running:  unsecapp.  I dont use Remote Assistance or any remote connection software at all.  Cant find how to stop this event from occuring?  Any suggestions, while the manufacturer pretends I didnt ask?

I am going to call into their support, but thought Id come here to avoid the headache I know ill ensue.

"unsecapp.exe is a process found on Microsoft Windows server and workstation suites which offers support towards compatibility issues. Please see below website for more information:http://msdn.Microsoft.com/library/default....atesinkstub.asp This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated."

Bob,

If this is so, wouldnt it make sense for it to also run on my System Builders pack of Windows 7 Pro?  Iv read the article, and also the article Iv posted says its not necessary, but merely a part of WMI.  Why would I need it on one install and not the other (it has never been on my Win7Pro machine)?

Create a system restore point and remove it and see what happens.
If you run into a problem, you can always go back to the restore point.
I can tell you that it's part of Windows 8 Consumer preview.

I killl the process about every time I boot up, but you cant stop it permanetly.  I can tell you that it is not part of my Windows 7 Professional install at any given time... even when I have webistes that are in compatibility mode.  The MS article I posted on concerns disbaling it in Vista and fully describes what 'compatibility' meausures it deals with... all remote WMI administration for asnycronous call backs.  Im not to worried as the FW policiy is not enabled concerning it, but wonder more if it could end up the exploit (like conime) of the next OS.

I would like tyo simply disable it from running as a startup process, not remove it from my system.

Who knows, maybe remote connection will get a new standard (other than SSL since thats exploited and done with now) and Ill fell comfortable using it again.

Since it's a Windows core file deleting it would be pointless
as Windows system file check would replace it when it discovered it missing.
The purpose of the program is to provide compatibility with the operating system
for older programs.
Apparently, you are running a software that requires the use of this program.
