x-antivirus in mail instead of headers
« on: December 13, 2004, 05:56:12 AM »
I just installed avast, and I'm liking it so far, however there is some odd behavior I'm hoping can be fixed.

I use Thunderbird (1.0)  email client on Windows XP Pro.  Some of the mail I recieve is  getting the "x-antivirus" lines that are supposed to be in the header actually showing up in the body of the  message.

Here is a partial email example:

<<<<  BEGIN CUT EMAIL >>>>
Unfortunately no.  However, you could use the java.sql.Blob or java.sql.Clob interface to determine the size of the data/string before it is copied.
X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0450-1, 12/09/2004), Inbound message
X-Antivirus-Status: Clean

Toby.
<<<< END CUT EMAIL >>>>

When I sent an email to myself, however, it put the inbound and outbound status into the message header correctly, instead of into the body like this.

Is there any configuration for this that will fix it?  Or some other solution?

Thanks.

chas,

I use TB 1.0 myself with XP and ME.

The "clean message" IS supposed to appear in the body of the email.

If you send an email to yourself, you will see both outbound and inbound messages inserted into the body at the end of the email provided that these options have been checked in the Internet Mail Module/Customize menu.

The "Clean Message" will not appear in the header.

 ;)

Sorry, that just doesn't make sense to me.

1. I don't have the option to "mark clean" set.
2. I'ts inserting into the middle of the text.  Not at the beginning.  Not at the end.  Right smack dab in the middle.

I just upgraded my mail server from James 2.1 to James 2.2 and this problem  went away.

I began having this problem recently.  Is there something changed in recent updates that might cause this?  I can't say for sure this is an Avast problem because when this problem started I was in the process of moving things from one PC to another.  This problem occurs (for me) when I have IMAP Inbound scanning enabled.  However, I have to note that the problem does NOT occur if I disable SpamAssassin scanning. (Possibly some problem with the blank line inserted after the final inserted SA header line??)  Below are two sample snippits depicting version info and how the problem manifests itself:

EDIT: It appears that I have corrected my problem.  I decided to reinstall all of my cygwin packages and after that it is working as it should.  One thing I noticed when I reinstalled was that the default text type was set to Unix, I set this to DOS.  Not sure if that was the cause, or if a package was improperly installed but it works properly now with the same SpamAssassin/Avast install I had previously.  Hopefully this might help someone else with a similar problem.

When I find an immigration, census or other on-line data record, can I save the image in Legacy and link it to the individual?  If so, can someone tell me how?  Many thanks.
