Forum database comprimised
« on: March 30, 2012, 02:51:55 AM »
Mods can check my registered e-mail address, it is unique to this forum, and I have just started receiving spam to this mailbox.

I haven't visited this forum since 2006.

I'll drop the mail for this alias, but something is afoot!

Well, seems a robot just join "things" in your email address and got it...
I don't think the security of the forum is compromised.
But, how did you discover you're receiving spam? Do you check your (this) email regularly?

I also just got an email to my avast! forum only email address from some dating type site (subject: "i'm certainly trying to find a man to hookup with!!! respond back for picture as quick as possible!").

My account settings have the "Allow users to email me" option unchecked, so unless someone is extremely good at guessing random email addresses, they must have somehow gained access to the forum address list.

Maybe the forum is infected with a virus?  ;D

I received a similar email, and on the email address that was ONLY ever provided to this forum, so it's VERY VERY unlikely a bot "guessed" it.  I also suspect the forum database has been compromised.
