Boot-Time Scan
« on: December 14, 2004, 06:17:56 PM »
I was given a Gateway loaded with Windows ME and I downloaded Avast and found the computer was infected with a Trojan Virus.  It was unable to remove/delete or move it to the chest because it said I didn't have permission to.  I tried to set Avast to run a Boot-Time scan but when I go to the menu, I see it but its shaded not highlighted and I'm unable to click on it.  My other computers are loaded with XP and I'm able run a boot-time scan.  Is it because of the Windows Me or is it something else?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

Boot time scan is only available on NT based systems as is explaind in Avast's help file, many times on this forum and on the Avast website.

Ok, Thankyou.  I did not know that.  So, how do I remove this trojan virus, if when it finds it, it is unable to remove/delete or move it to the chest?

Thanks
Jim

Restart your computer in safe mode (usually pressing F8 during boot) and run a scan in safe mode.

It may be unable to move/delete it because it is running and probably protected by windows. Starting in safe mode may stop it getting loaded.
