contacting internet

can anyone tell me why avast try's to contact the internet every min. or so using ecco 1 thur 12 contacting different internet companys like everyones internet for example. Can anyone tell me what is causing this and how to get rid of it.

Must be something else.

Avast checks for updates as soon as you connect to the net, after that (if you stay online) it checks for updates every 4 hours (default settings) and Avast certainly isn't contacting different companies, it only checks the update-servers.

Check your firewalls log to see what exactly is trying to connect to what.
Also check what applications/process are running (background).

In fact it may be avast pinging our updating servers, determining if they are reachable. Are those ICMP packets (pings)?

On my firewall log there called application hijack,port scans and active responce there contacting Everyone internet in Houston Texas they do this about every 2min.

The servers are correct. EV1 (aka "Everyone's Internet" http://www.ev1.net ) is the main provider of our updating servers.

So it's probably really avast just pinging its servers.
You can try setting the "My computer is permanently connected to the Internet" option which will turn off the pinging - but of course, this makes sense only if you are indeed permanently connected to the Internet (cable/dsl etc).
