CCleaner 5.44.6575

Being that CCleaner has developed into Adware since it's take over, the more preferable options discussed on Wilders are as below...

Privacy Eraser http://www.cybertronsoft.com/products/privacy-eraser/ very similar feel and options to CCleaner

HDCleaner https://kurtzimmermann.com/index_e.html

Nice to have other options, I have downloaded the HDCleaner option from kurtzimmermann.com to give it a try.  Mainly as it also comes as Portable version, installation not required it also supports Windows XP, which means I can run the same tool on my XP, Win7 and Win10 systems.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

I downloaded the 32bit and 64bit portable versions (zip files) and the web shield never alerted. I have done an explorer scan on them in my downloads folder and no alerts.

They checked out clean here too, but running the HDCleaner executable produced the alert.

Edit: grammar

It isn't actually a full blown alert as such, but blocked and there is an option to set an exclusion.  For me that is the Hardened Mode, which I have enabled and set to Aggressive, this checks files against the avast database.  If there is no record of that hash then it would get blocked, as far as I can recall, Hardened Mode - Aggressive isn't a default setting.

So this is usually related to a file that avast is coming across for the first time, is this the Alert you are talking about ?

EDIT: Adding an exclusion allows the program to run, it would still be scanned by the file system shield.

No, I got an "infected" warning as I recall (no screenshot, I'm afraid — I deleted the file & emptied the chest).

1.  Were you using the portable version (other than it not requiring installation), I don't know if the executable would be different ?

2.  Did it not send it to the virus chest ?
If so you should be able to get some more information there.

Thanks for your concern DavidR, but it really is not an issue :)

But, FYI, :
1. Yes it was the exe extracted from the portable .zip, and
2. As I said in my last post:

I'm cool with it :)

@ alanb,

Did the alerts (there were two of them) look like the attached below?  Procedure for running this program for me identical to what you have done.

For now, exe remains in the chest along with a file marked as 'disable UAC'.  So no program running atm.   :(   Disappointed tho that the option to scan or send off the malware sample to Avast is not available.

BTW, MS Paint is showing EOL notice upper right blue circle with an exclamation mark "Product Alert".  You need to click that to see what it is.  It will be available only on Microsoft Store in the future.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.1.6099 (build 24.1.88821.762)  UI version 1.0.797
 UI version 1.0.788.  Windows 11 Home 23H2 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.2.6105 (build 24.1.8918.827) UI version 1.0.801

Hi @mchain.

Yup — same as the first screenshot.

Not sure what you mean by this (or how relevant it is)?  I never use MS Paint or the Microsoft Store (I'm on Win7).

Is this some other Avast product that I don't use?
