Microsoft Update
If you don't already check them anyway, take a look at "optional" upgrades this time around.  There's one for XP that I'm a little surprised wasn't considered Critical, re handling of active-x pages.
Intel Atom D2700, 2 gig RAM, Win 7 x64 SP1 & IE-11, Firefox 51.0
(default). 320 gig HD, 15Mb DSL, Win firewall, Avast 12.3.2280 free, SpywareBlaster, MBAM Prem., Crypto-Prevent

Thanks for that, Mike.    :)

I did not check the optionals yesterday because I was in a hurry.    :(

Edit:

Strange, the only optional updates I had were "Microsoft Base Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider Package" and "Windows Media Connect 2.0" neither of which I think I need. Correct me if I am wrong in needing those.    :)

Microsoft again strikes with Windows Genuine Validation. In my opinion, not quite fair not to mention it inside their "complete" list of latest updates:

Of course, this will be on the way only for all those who use pirated versions of Windows. Right now, what's really concerning, some Corporate versions of Windows XP Professional can't pass Windows Genuine Validation either. And I am talking about legally paid for corporate versions. I already got 3 complaints from my clients... they simply can not update their Windows any more.

Well done Microsoft, well done... unbelievable...

Microsoft again strikes with Windows Genuine Validation.
I've read today in the newspaper that the same patch to crack that last version could be used now.
It seems Microsoft just release the same test (files, registry keys, activex, whatever...).

Probably off-topic here, but I feel it relates to updates & Microsoft.

1. I enquired at a  large Computer shop few days ago when Windows Vista will be available.
The salesman replied; "Oh , MS are too busy with XBox 360 (Game Console) ,we have no release date as yet."
So I ascertain Microsoft are very busy Updating there gaming software to be concerned with Windows  related matters.
2. I've been reading here :

Yes but they are not mentioning very important thing... what about those who legally purchased let's say for example something like 20 licenses. The company I worked for in the past, purchased a Pro Corporate version with 20 licenses for its employees. Legally paid. Now three of those corporate versions doesn't work with their original keys (?!!). What now ? People are forced to find some working keys, otherwise they will not be able to do updates any more. They paid for their version of Windows Pro Corporate.

Another thing... old patch doesn't work with this Windows Genuine verification update. Plus, it is not possible to disable its add-on in IE any more. That option is simple grayed-out and therefore not possible to disable/enable... it is always enabled.

Well, I am sure "crackers" will find some workaround for this one... once you make something, there is always a way to set it apart, this way or another...  ;)

MS have lost the plot Updating Windows XP Pro .The methods of verifying a legitimate copy dont work . I bet the Keys for the " 3 disabled keys " you mention have been used by lots of people who didn't pay a cent for any licences, and are using pirated copies of XP feeling very pleased about themselves. MS picks up that the Keys have been exploited , and default on valid licensed copies. Probably ask your company to pay to make their copies legitimate again too. :P

This is an issue for those who purchased a bulk volume license, they can add to that number of licenses by contacting MS and getting allocated additional licenses, even these fail the current and previous WGA validation as these numbers don't feature in the range of valid numbers they are checked against.

A friend who runs an IT business has a bulk volume license and his keys are legit, aren't doing the rounds so haven't been copied en masse, yet they still fail. He has written to MS complaining of this the second fiasco in less than a year. Having paid for the licenses he is pi**ed at continually having to get permission to use them. He wonders if it is worth the hassle, time and effort trying to resolve this with MS or crack the WGA.
