Where did you save the aswMBR.exe file, if not desktop, where ?

You should be able to run it as the same account that you downloaded it (if it has admin permissions). You could also try running it from safe mode.

Whilst I'm not a malware removal specialist - In this case - [TDL4] **ROOTKIT** found:

This is normally the action taken:
* run the aswMBR scan again then click "FIX" and reboot

However, if you wish to wait for one of the malware removal specialists to analyse the logs and decide a course of action, I don't have a problem with that. Essexboy is normally on the forums from about 7pm UK time, now 4pm. Unless one of the other malware removal specialist in a time-zone closer to your own can pick up on this one.

thank you for your reply,

i saw in a previous post essexboy gave a custom fix for somone.  i might feel more comfortable if he looked at it but, how do you get a hold of him.

should i just wait, or is there a way to pm him , fortunately i do not get viruses or
worm so i do not come here often.

thanks,

craig

<snip>

The custom fixes relate to the OTL log and will have to be analysed by him to be able to do that the aswMBR actions would be separate to the OTL custom fix.

I have PM'd him about this topic already, but it is likely to be about two hours before he is on the forums..

You haven't got two rootkits, it is just that aswMBR sees it as TDL4 a form of MBR rootkit, that the normal Avast detection sees as alureon.

ty,

a reason why i am reluctant to just press the fix is becasue i have a dual boot system.

one for xp and one for w7.
thanks for pm'ing him.

No problem, essexboy will advise regarding dual boot and fixing the MBR when he gets on-line.

Using aswMBR should not affect the dual boot but, lets use another one to kill it on the off chance

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

If you have Malwarebytes 1.6 or better installed please disable it for the duration of this run

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

There are drop down lists Where you see the Skip in the image 4 of essexboy's post above, replicated here (click to expand). So Cure would be one of the options in the drop down list.

I believe that is the area essexboy means.
