Hello
I have exactly the same problem .... have the solutions you offer above!
Explore what track to solve it?
I do not process "com.avast.proxy" running and when I try to disable the shield in the mail or web preferences I get an error that prevents me to do: (

Please search for 'proxy' in this case, not for avast! (we will unify all the logs with some avast prefix in the future, but it is not yet done now)

Here it is:

The problem is line #8 in your /etc/hosts file. It contains some not allowed character, most probable a star (*). If you remove/fix the line, the mail/web shield should start working properly.

Hello people.. I've got an Imac 27" and i just installed the Avast Free for mac.
1) I've got the same problem of mail/web shield Undetected.
I tried installing Textwrangler and moving the "fe80::1%lo0   localhost" at the end of it and saving but nothing happened.
I'm not into code or whatsoever so.. i would like if anyone is so patience to give me a kid explanation to how to fix it.
 maybe this can help:
Host Database

Please look into the system log file (/var/log/system.log) for 'proxy' messages and post them here.

Can you post here the contents of the proxy configuration file
Code: [Select]
/Library/Application Support/Avast/config/com.avast.proxy.conf?
