memory usage / leak?
« on: April 07, 2012, 08:33:58 PM »
I'm running 7.0 (36454) on Lion 10.7.3 and the memory usage is crippling my machine. I have 4GB physical RAM and am down to about 20-40 MB free.

top -o rsize shows avast being the main memory hog:

PID  COMMAND          %CPU TIME     #TH  #WQ  #POR #MREG RPRVT  RSHRD  RSIZE  VPRVT  VSIZE  PGRP PPID STATE    UID  FAULTS   COW     MSGSENT   MSGRECV   SYSBSD   SYSMACH  CSW      PAGEINS KPRVT  KSHRD  USER
239- com.avast.MacAva 0.0  11:42.83 9    0    25   1221  2221M  1920K  1718M  3462M  4093M  109  109  sleeping 0    5858286  402     5502      2203      2274429+ 339534   752167+  993559  10M-   21M    root

ps -ef | grep 239 shows:

0   239   109   0  5:37pm ??        11:42.63 /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/vps/com.avast.MacAvast.MAD

Is this a bug/issue?

Hello,

You are not alone in this, see this thread:

Thanks. I did see this before I posted, but I thought it was different as I hadn't run a scan. The high memory usage for me is just having it running i.e. the shields.

Hopefully it will get addressed in subsequent releases.
