Avast internet security slows machine
« on: April 10, 2012, 05:07:47 PM »
HI I bought avast internet security 7 two weeks ago when my mcafee ran out. I uninstalled mcafee using the contorl panel AND their extra uninstaller, installed avast. My machine is now very slow, especially using Dreamweaver and Firefox... and I'm developing websites so this is not acceptable for me.
I've tried turning off various shields but am not sure what's the best ones to turn off / what settings to try.
Can anyone suggest anything? If it carries on like this then I will have to have my money back.

FF: takes ages to respond and "hangs" in "not responding" mode for ages.
Dreamweave also hags then works then hangs... very slow to use.

Running windows 7.. what other info might you need?

So, all websites load slow all the time?   Or is this only when you are doing editing?

hi...
more when I'm doing editing. Dreamweaver also very slow to respond and often hangs with "not responding" message.
Normal sites seem ok.
But i'm syaing this when I've disabled: script shield, im shield, p2pshield
Not sure what these do or how they affect things but general surfing has improved but development surfing has not (and dreamweaver has problems still)

Any ideas?

many thanks
