Please follow these instructions:

(1) Open Terminal.app and perform this command:
Code: [Select]
ps -Awwland provide the command output to us.

(2) Then perform this command in the Terminal.app:
Code: [Select]
sudo rm '/Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir/vpsmac.locked'
(3) Reboot.

If you are not friend of command line, just copy these commands from here into Terminal.app window.

The step (1) should allow us to fix the bug, the steps (2) and (3) should workaround the problem and allow you to update the VPS again.

Thanks for the report.

Sorry, I 've just realized the second command was wrong because the lock is directory and not ordinary file, so please remove the lock file once again with this command:
Code: [Select]
sudo rm -rf ''/Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir/vpsmac.locked' and then reboot.

I have a simular problem to igor_skob's, here's my log file  :

-----------

Performing vpsmac update (repository: http://download.ff.avast.com/mac/vpsmac, filedir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12032101/../../Setup/filedir, workdir: /tmp, instdir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12032101/..)

Performing progmac update (repository: http://download.ff.avast.com/mac/progmac, filedir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir, workdir: /tmp, instdir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12032101/..)

Version progmac 36454 already downloaded

------------------------

Here's the output of the ps -Awwl command :

which is too long, as it exceeds the length of 1000 character limit

----------------------

I will run the command

sudo rm -rf ''/Library/Application Support/Avast/files/Setup/filedir/vpsmac.locked'

and reboot then log back in and try another update ( worried about the new "Flashback" trojan).

I uninstalled my old paid version of Avast! for Mac, will this Beta version, when finalized, become a fully licensed version for the remainder of my license period?

Dear all,

I've been having nightmares due to similar problems. My Avast database does not update when prompted. Here's the log of error...

Performing vpsmac update (repository: http://download.ff.avast.com/mac/vpsmac, filedir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12091701/../../Setup/filedir, workdir: /tmp, instdir: /Library/Application Support/Avast/files/defs/12091701/..)

Failed: progmac update postponed, vpsmac isn't up to date

It is sort of urgent :( Any assistance would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
