A quick check
« on: December 16, 2004, 09:25:17 PM »
Hi, i am kinda new here, i stumbled in here because of some review, but as long as i am here, i though i might as well ask.

There does not seem to be any way to create a poll here (or i totally missed it) so i'll go by the show of hands.

I am a specialist in the IT field, working on projects in the F/OSS community such as IPTables, OpenBSD, SELinux and other smaller and bigger security related systems and programs.

So, how many of you are using the pre-configured admin accounts or full rights accounts on your computers?

What would be helpful would be an answer that mentions OS and eventual protections such as zonealarm along with your answer.

Thank you.

On how many different threads are you trying to start a fight?
For someone who doesn't use this product, and someone who calls himself a specialist it's amazing that you couldn't even figure out a simple thing like starting a poll.
You don't seem to have any problems in antagonizing people. Guess that must be one of your Specialties?

I am just trying to gather some information, perhaps share some advice, if you disagree then please do so in a factual way.

Do you have an argument to present or are you just in this thread to flame me?

If you use a full rights account, you have no security PERIOD, it is the FIRST thing, everything else comes AFTER THAT, and if you had ANY idea about security, you would know that.

Well, i usually get guys to hate me and women to love me, but that is another story and i don't think it is appropriate for this forum.

If you have a problem with my statement that a full rights account user is unsafe no matter what other measures he takes then i would like you to tell me why.

Or better yet, how many know the reasons WHY you should NEVER use a full rights account as your basic account on ANY computer?

If you aren't going to answer that question, don't bother replying.

I suggest the Off-Topic forum for this issue. It's not avast related.
About the poll, Bob answered you. Just click a buttom.

I use the administrator account only in Safe Mode.
An user with administration rights in normal use.

I have a full rights account because I do not want to be restricted with what I can do with windows at any given time. I have no personal or private info on my computer, and always have up-to-date backups of my data. So its no biggie if I have to format.

The number of times I have been hacked, or have gotten a virus in the last three years: 0.

If I was in charge of servers, or expensive machines I would take the necessary precautions.

If the "gentleman" thinks he has a need to know that's one issue. I personally don't think he does have a "need to know". Enough said.

I am using 3 software firewalls, 17 hardware firewalls, 316 different antiviruses (all of them with resident shield enabled). I don't need mail protection, because it's useless anyway. That's why I forced my friends and contacts to send me regular mail, but regular mail by all means... postmans are corrupt, so I use pigeons. Pure and decent.

That's pretty much about my security, but also I have one bubby trap ready... so if you even pass all those firewalls and other obstacles, I have my shovel ready...

Maybe I should put some smilies... naaahhhh...

I bet he works for Norton or some other antivirus company... competition is healthy, but only when you deal with healthy people from competitor's company...

One more time, joke killed flame... that's not bad...
