Why not remove Comodo ?

It's a good firewall, and better than the one that comes in Avast Internet Security, so I'd rather give up Avast (which seems to be causing the problems with comodo firewall & frozen pc start ups) until these conflicts have been resolved.

So why not use Comodo free internet security with av and Fw/D+ to avoid conflicts until the avast conflict is resolved?

The Av seems not to have performed too well in tests, but the FW/D+ is a very strong combination

Actually I've had to do this as Microsoft Security Essentials was slowing up my pc (XPsp3), although at least no conflicts with Comodo so its Comodo free internet security for now until the Comodo/Avast thing is fixed ...

Out of interest, any Windows 7 64bit users have problems with ComodoFW/Avast Free combination ?

Some but the issue is one of a security loop hole which could allow maliscious programmes to establish outbound connection. -
It is well documented and has been discussed in detail on several forums including here and at Comodo.

Myself, I have decided to stick with Comodo and Avast and wait for the next Comodo update which apparently will address the bug ...

Well after not being able to stand Comodo's antivirus, I uninstalled it, and went back to the last good configuration of Comodo firewall  v5.10 and Avast free v 7.0.1456 and both seems to be cohabiting fine without the need for an acrimonious divorce ...  the problem came when I updated my Avast free to the latest version ... so there's something in that which does not sit well with Comodo Firewall ...

As much as it hurt because I like Comodo firewall, I've been using it with Avast! since version 2.4, If you run W7 you must look for another firewall. Try Outpost or Online Armor.

Comodo will not control outbound connections when running Avast! and Windows 7. Neither Windows firewall.

Now if you are running Windows XP, there is nothing wrong with avast! and Comodo. See my sig.

Running XPSP3 for now although I'll have the Win7 64x issues to contend with next week as someone's bought me a new Dell xps 8500 i7

From what you said above do I understand correctly that even the Win 7 Windows firewall wont be able to control outbound if using Avast Free ?

Yikes ... what's the problem with Avast Free & Win 7 ?

Because Avast! is implementing some API that is not supported by Windows and Comodo firewall. When any connection goes through Avast! web shield Windows and Comodo does not see the connection but Avast! web shield that works as a proxy.

Craigb:

I have enough screen grabs to prove you moderated me out despite LEGITIMATE complaints against AVAST security turning off live protections.

I was trying to post an apology for coming off strong, and you removed my account and ALL of our posts despite the relevant information about Avast real-time protections randomly turning themselves off.

I do not want to bash Avast.

I DO WANT Avast to become better so I can trust it.  I like the interface.  I like the lightweight footprint in memory. I like the reasonable CPU Usage...

Please do not delete this account, and I promise not to come off so strong in the future.

I am worried about use of it since it currently does not have the ability to keep its real-time protection enabled or reload them when they turn off randomly.

This is not bashing, it is a legitimate complaint.

I assumed Comodo has something to do with it, despite only using their firewall without their other components.

Help me if I am wrong about that, but dont just delete me and my posts.

Can we call a truce and work together?

This thread seemed the best fit, maybe I should have started a new one? (EDIT: Just found a better one, but still not 100% the same- I can restart the RT protections)

   How can we work together?

Sorry if it seemed harsh but it really came across as trolling in your previous posts, i'll give you the benifit of the doubt.

If avast turns of it's protection there could be many reasons but the program icon will let you know if that happens and a repair will usually fix the problem, saying that though the protection itself have never disabled for me on my own systems and the numerus systems i look after so there is no definitive reason for this that i know of but many issues have come down to alot of people not removing remnant of old AV's.

Thanks for the doubt :)

This is a fresh install, and the first thing I did after plugging in the ethernet cable was to download and install Avast, then Comodo, then Spybot S&D...

As I said, this was to try out Avast and Comodo, both new and highly recommended for me.

The wireless did not come until after everything else was done, it was a gift, for good grades, to my daughter.

I did not expect any troubles like this.

I have had Avira not like concurrent installation with Spybot, but though it complains it has never caused me any issues I could tell.

I will avoid drawing comparisons with that competitor to Avast now...

I will try a repair install in the morning.

Will let the forum know if it worked by noon.

After installing Avast it behaved like that within the first hour, I half expect it to continue, but I hope it does not.

Thanks for trying to help me switch to Avast.

But if you pack up avast free and COMODO firewall with its D+ and SB...they are the batman and robin against Malware  ;D

Honestly,Its no use fighting whose fault is the cause of this conflict...it may be even avast or even COMODO...As none of them are not gods...the makers, developers and programmers are all humans..so the fault can be on either side.So please guys,I know we are from avast forums but we cannot put the fault on other vendors for conflicts...not to mention we must not avast 7 RC problems and bugs...Btw we miss the whole point,we must unite together in the fight  against malware and not fight against the people of our own town :(

Just my opinion.  8)

I will try a repair install in the morning.

Good, see how it goes and let us know.

One thing i should mention is that avast and Spybot have had problems running together in the past, especially if TeaTimer is active!

Definitely. TeaTimer and Avast! will mess things about. even more if you add Comodo to that combo.

If you are running Avast! and CIS 5.10 under Windows XP, there should be no problems. Mind you, you have to choose between Avast! and Comodo Autosandbox, and add a few exclutions to both to minimize any potencial conflict. Do note that Comodo likes to autosanbox programs and not alerting them so check Comodo's Autosanbox logs.

Comodo released v. 5.12 that was designed to run with W8; However, it seems to work well with W7 ( fix the issue of the API drivers ).
