Lost LAN connection after Avast install
« on: April 23, 2012, 05:49:35 AM »
I installed Avast 7.0.1426 today (April 22) on an older XP system that is connected to a wired + wireless ethernet hub.  The system's behavior seems much improved, but I have lost the ability to connect to the LAN or internet (DSL).  I can't even ping the router.  It's as if the system does not even recognize that the nework adapter is there, although it appears and tests fine in device manager.

I know the hardware is fine and I can connect to anything from the other two computers on the LAN.  The network connection seems properly configured.'

It would appear that Avast made some sort of change or removed some software element so nothing on Windows can see the network adapter.  All I know is that it worked before installing AVAST, albeit slowly, and now the computer runs fast but can't connect to anything.

Please advise.
