Boot-time Scanning problem when asking what to do with virus
« on: April 25, 2012, 08:44:45 AM »
Hello! I have ran into a problem where whenever I load the boot-time scan and there is a potential virus. It gives me options. When I try to click the number I want, it doesn't respond. It might be my computer but then I have to restart my computer. After I restart it usually goes to system repair. Is there a way that I still get asked and so that I can actually choose an option.

If you need any information, ask.

PS: AVAST IS AWESOME ;D

What do you mean by the scan, do you want me to take a picture of when it freezes or what?

by potential virus i mean when a unsafe file pops up and avast asks me what to do. Then you have to click a number then it will do that action. It doesn't let me click the numbers.

What is your operating system ?
What type of connection does your keyboard have PS2 or USB ?

As strange as those questions may seem, in winXP, your keyboard (if a USB) may not be being detected prior to windows running and being able to detect USB devices.

WIN 7 x64 USB

That 'should' be OK, as most modern systems should be able to handle USB devices, so I'm not sure why yours isn't responsive. I guess you could try and get into your BIOS and see if USB Devices are enabled.

You could also pre-set the actions to take to No Action, sounds daft I know, but it would allow you to complete the scan and then be able to examine the log file for what was found. Look in the C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\report\aswBoot.txt (Vista, Win7 location), check this file using notepad for info on the scan/detections, etc. This location may be hidden so you may have to change the Tools, Folder Options in windows explorer to view hidden files and folders.

Not sure why you need to run the boot-time scan for in the first instance ?

I completed a boot-time scan with no action but then the next time I restarted my computer, it went into system repair and forced a system restore to a point when I didn't have Avast

System restore and avast! have their issues together.
If you use System restore to a point before installing avast!, I'll make an avast! installation from scratch:

1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
3. (Optional) If you want, save your avast! settings for later restoration (Settings > Maintenance > Back up).
4. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
5. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1 in Safe Mode. Boot after you've run it. Repeat this for any major avast! version you have ever installed/upgraded in your computer.
6. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
7. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
8. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.
The best things in life are free.

Now I have a problem with viruses and malware.
I have 4 similar viruses in my virus chest that I would like to remove.

Name                  Virus
80000032.@       Win32:DNSChanger-VJ [Trj]
80000064.@       Win32:Malware-gen
80000064.@       Win32:Malware-gen
80000064.@       Win32:Malware-gen

80000064.@       Win32:Malware-gen is in there 3 times which is weird.

They are all from C:\Windows\assembly\temp\U

Can you tell me what they do and how to remove them because before avast those types of viruses would pop up every 10 minutes.
