Nothing to do with avast.

Have you downloaded anything from Softonic recently, as I guess like some other software download sites(download.com), if you did, may end up their download manager.

Same with hijackthis, a worthless piece of software that hasn't been updated on years and also has nothing to do with avast.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

As DavidR said Softonic and C|NET Downloads are installing a manager downloader for the programs they distribute.

Better to use:

http://www.filehippo.com/

http://www.filehorse.com/

http://www.majorgeeks.com/

It is not listed in add/remove programs so I went to start & typed Softonic & the two entries popped up. I then right clicked on each & deleted the two entries. Looks like it worked. I will stay off Cnet from now on..!!

Yep, I agree with the above post that filehippo.com and majorgeeks.com are much better download sites.

I haven't downloaded anything from cnet/download.com for over 10 years because of their deceptive downloading practices.  Years ago, I was saddened to find out Avast was going to use that site.
