anti phishing
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:59:49 AM »
Hi, I gave up on Firefox and went back to IE9 but find the webrep taskbar hideous! if I disable it do I just lose webrep or do I lose protection? Is the anti phishing element just the reputation? I can live without webrep but don't really want to lose any protection?
Cheers

Anti phishing is part of WR. So yes, you would loose this part.

Thanks for the replies guys, I only ever enter any personal details in trusted sites in my favorites so I think I will risk it, a whole taskbar with a centimeter icon? Shame they can to a discreet icon only like in Firefox.
Thanks again.

1. That's the only way to add it in IE. ;)
2. You're welcome.

1. it is the design flaw of IE 9 (of course avast does not want it to occupy the whole taskbar, eg. google chrome and firefox)

webrep also check for fake certificates, which is pretty important.

source: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#tab3

Quote: The version 7 WebRep browser plugins provide greater protection against phishing sites, including heuristics detection of new phishing sites. Also, we can now detect fake/planted SSL certificates, preventing man-in-the-middle attacks against https sites. Additionally, we have extended browser support to Apple™ Safari™.

i would recommend u not to disable it for cosmetic reasons but its up to u  ;)

Something I wasn't aware of.   I have never run into a site where I've seen any of this type of warning either......

Well... I've posted in the blog (https://blog.avast.com/2012/02/14/quando-o-google-cai-fora-o-avast-entra-em-acao/) although it was in Portuguese. Maybe you can use Google Translation.
When Google gets out, avast! come in :)
